New mums know that they will be changing lots and lots of nappies so the thought of using cloth nappies and laundering nappies all day long is not something they look forward to. One of the biggest myths about cloth nappies is that they make nappy changing even more challenging. Many mums don’t realize that cloth nappies no longer require pins and rubber pants, they are as easy to use as a disposable diaper.
Today’s cloth nappies come fitted with a waterproof cover sewn on so there is no putting on the nappy only to struggle with getting rubber pants on your baby. The rubber pants always had elastic that cut into baby’s legs, making them very uncomfortable. Mums also worry that those shap metal pins were still needed but fortunately they are long gone. The sharp pins have been replaced with Velcro or snaps to make nappy changing with cloth nappies as easy as using disposable nappies.
There is one factor to using cloth nappies, the additional laundry, that scares off most mums. There is no getting around having to wash cloth nappies unless you can afford to use a nappy service to launder them for you. However, babies tend to make lots of laundry anyway so you might not notice the extra load. Cloth nappies aren’t for everyone but at least now mums can make their choice knowing that nappy changing won’t be any more difficult because they chose cloth nappies.
